Here’s a little note to the reader: This book, like poetry, is clean and put together as a whole. But once you open it and start to read and pull it apart you realize that it is messy. When writing these poems I wanted it to be relatable but to also tell my stories. Every person in my life has a color attached to their name so to me, this book is saturated with color. Some of the shades may not go well together and some of the colors have dried up completely but that doesn’t mean some of the brushes aren’t stained underneath. I encourage you to sit down with this book and different colored highlighters. While reading if a line makes you think of someone, give them a color and highlight the line with it. See how the colors clash and overlap, watch how some of them dull and mud up and watch how some colors trail off slowly until you aren’t using them anymore. Sometimes it may seem like everything is one color and one emotion but until you sit down and pull it apart you won’t realize the beauty in these collisions.
